Industrial Design
Skeg presented the client with a range of concept drawings from which a direction for the design was chosen. The challenge was to design a cover that can grip onto the Tube and take the weight of 3 liters of wine. The idea behind the design represents the ripple effect of a drop falling into a pool of liquid. In designing the unit the packing and stacking of the unit also had to be considered. We used hand drawn sketches, CorelDraw and Pro-Engineer in doing the design of the unit.
Prototyping
The three plastic parts were 3D printed and finished for silicone tooling. Suitable polyurethane resins were used to cast the three different parts. The parts were assembled to the cardboard tube and tested to see if the parts could handle the 3kg weight.
