Caudwell Single Side Mount Digital Throttle

The Side Mount Throttle was designed as part of Caudwell Marine's digital controls for their Axis Drive marine propulsion systems. Helm design is particularly challenging in that the environment is incredibly harsh, the control needs to be accurate and reliable, and the part needs to fit into the look and feel of the high end boat it is controlling.

Industrial Design
Our experience in manufacturing processes was brought to bear in designing the details; product break-down and assembly strategy, internal lock/unlock mechanisms, rocker switches, buttons, weather seals, rubber grips, keypads and LED backlighting.

The challenge was integrating all the electronics and injection moulded, plastic sub-systems within the very polished, high gloss, cast stainless steel base and levers.

Rapid prototyping aided every step of the way in testing each and every design avenue until the final solution was reached. Fit, form, ergonomics and mechanical and electronic workings could all be tested on our physical prototypes - produced in-house, including the investment cast parts in 316 Stainless Steel.
