Prototyping

Terrestrial - Arivi Kerosene Stove

The Arivi kerosene stove was designed to be a safer option than existing paraffin stoves.

Prototyping
Skeg manufactured various versions of the safety mechanism through machining and sheet metal methods. A final set of complete working prototypes were manufactured through metal forming methods including the body parts and fuel tank. Plastic parts were made by 3D printing, silicone tooling and vacuum casting processes.

Analysis
Computational Fluid Dynamics software (CFDesign) was used to predict the gas and heat flow within the unit and to optimise the geometry for maximum efficiency. This was important as natural convection was to be the only driver of gas flow, and the primary heat transfer mechanism.
