Industrial Design When designing the Miller blades, we had to make sure that the parts would be strong enough not to break during operation. We used FEM analysis to simulate the use of the product and modified the geometry based on the analysis. The other requirement was that it carry light from the source all the way to the tip of the product, thus getting enough light to the target in the back of the throat. The parts also needed to fit onto the existing handle without modifying the handle.
Prototyping Four different blade sizes were 3D printed and polished. These were silicone tooled after which a very strong, clear PU was used to vacuum cast the parts. These parts were then used to check fitment to the existing product as well as functional testing.
