Freeplay - Self-powered Fetal Heart Rate Monitor

The fetal heart rate monitor is used in rural and mobile clinics to monitor a baby's heart rate whilst still in the womb. The product is self-powered to be independent from any electrical source.

Prototyping
The plastic and rubber parts were 3D printed and finished for silicone tooling.

The parts were vacuum cast in polyurethanes that simulate actual injection moulded materials. Detail like the speaker grille is machined post casting in order to ensure accuracy and detail are maintained. These prototypes are still in use 4 years after manufacture.
