Our first step in any novel or invented type product is to do a technical feasibility. This is to ensure that the product can be developed within the laws of physics and that no technology is required that is either not mature enough or is not available. The most basic part of any feasibility is a literature search which identifies any issues related to mechanics, electronics and materials. It also very quickly highlights what has been achieved by others and if your product is indeed as unique as you hope.
Typically we use methods such as rig building to do experiments on elements of the proposed product to establish if the physics and mechanical properties are feasible. In electronic development, breadboards are built and tests are conducted on these. The result of doing a feasibility study will highlight possible stumbling blocks in the development process. However it can also find more economically feasible and mechanically sound solutions to achieve the same result.
